Reprieve is a
group of international charities dedicated to assisting
in the provision of effective legal representation
and humanitarian assistance to impoverished people
facing the death penalty at the hands of the state;
to producing and publishing information about the
use of the death penalty and to raising awareness
more generally concerning human rights.
Reprieve (US)
is the United States component of the Reprieve group.
To provide direct services to people facing the death
penalty we have established the only United States
based volunteer program for foreign lawyers, students,
and others to work at death penalty defense offices
throughout the deep south and in other states with
critically underfunded capital defense systems. Reprieve
strives to create national and international collaborations
with all interested parties, from a variety of cultural
standpoints, religious values, countries of origin,
and political ideologies. In addition to providing
direct services to those facing the death penalty,
Reprieve (US) is focused on developing a richer cultural
understanding on the place of the death penalty in
our community and the treatment of prisoners on death
row.
